Newphoria New Year's Concert

I had the opportunity to assist a celebrity hair and makeup artist for the Newphoria New Year’s Concert featuring David Archuleta, Ashley Tisdale, and V Factory. We performed hair, makeup, and arranged wardrobe. We were in charge of getting the performers ready for promos, events, and the final concert.

4Real

I was asked to assist with hair and makeup for the girl-performing group 4Real. The group was discovered on a local television show called Create the Group, similar to MTV’s Making of the Band. I was able to assist with the key hair and makeup artist for photo shoots, concerts, and promos. 4real has opened for Three 6 Mafia and Jordin Sparks.

American Idol

After

I had the opportunity to go down to Los Angeles for American Idol’s Hollywood week. Contestant Taylor Viafanua was told by Judge Simon Cowell that she was in desperate need of a makeover during her first audition in Salt Lake City. Before her audition in Hollywood, we were able to give her a makeover from head to toe. While filming, new judge Kara DioGuardi commented that she had the best makeover she had seen. Taylor is now in the top 36!

Crazy Cat Lady

This was one of my favorite photo shoots I have ever done. I loved the idea of taking the crazy cat lady stereo-type and turning it into a high-fashion sexy editorial shot. I love animals, so it was so fun having kittens on set while we were shooting.

The Inside Out

Our first Production Team event was to be in charge of all special-effect hair and make up for a film called The Inside Out. The film is a sci-fi thriller that is currently shopping many major networks including HBO. It was filmed in an old rundown prison. We learned so much about how a film set works. This experience allowed us to apply the skills that we had learned in previous Production Team classes on special-effect hair and makeup. It was such an amazing experience.

The Production Team

At Paul Mitchell the school there are many different student run programs you can participate in. The programs offered include student council, design team, product rep, and phase 2. Something I have always been interested in is the entertainment side of the hair and makeup industry (print, film, fashion shows, theater, ect). I wanted a team the students could take part in and be able to participate in such events. A fellow student and I came up with the idea of The Production Team. The idea was to have a team that would allow future professionals like us to have the chance to do hair and makeup for the entertainment industry while we were still in school. We had the opportunity to meet with the head owner of all Paul Mitchell schools/motivational speaker Winn Claybaugh. We presented our idea and the structure of how we wanted the team to run. He loved the idea and wanted to implement it right away. Production team was est. Oct. 2008; we now have 14 team members, have worked on several film sets, musical theater shows, and photo shoots. We know that this new team has helped boost student moral.
